Frequently Asked Questions
What is humidity?
Humidity simply put, is the amount of water vapor in the air.
Humidity is measured as a percentage measurement of the current absolute humidity retaliative to the maximum highest point for that temperature.
Relative humidity, expressed as a percent, measures the current absolute humidity relative to the maximum (highest point) for that temperature. Using a hygrometer you can measure the levels around the room to find out the levels of humidity.
What does a Dehumidifier do?
Our dehumidifiers work the same way an air conditioner or refrigerator do. Air is blown through a radiator, one side of the radiator gets warm while the other side gets cold. The moisture in the air collects on the cold side of the radiator through condensation and freezes. When the machine is ready, it flips the warm/cold sides temporarily and the water runs down in to the collector. If the collector fills up the water is pumped out or gravity fed to a drainage point.
What type of dehumidifier do I need?
A wall mounted dehumidifier is a fixture on the wall and will have a drain hose for the water to run away.
Standard models are on wheels and can be moved from area to area with a long hose and internally pump out the condensation they extract form the air to a drainage outlet.
An area that is subject to mold building up in humid times may need a permanent wall mounted SP model that will only turn on when humidity arrives and then turn off again when the set humidity level is reached. The portable SDx01 models can also be used in this manner to only turn on when humidity is above your desired level.
Restoration companies use the SDx00 models because they run continuously until turned off.
What size dehumidifier do I need?
With Dehumidifiers, whether a wall mounted or portable model is used, its crucial to have the right size model for the area.
Over size models will clear the area quicker and in less time, under size will struggle to do the job and you may find you still have mold in parts of the room not getting cleared during the heavy periods of humidity. You can measure the room, E.g 3m length x 4m width x 3m height = 36m³ (CBM).
